Woodnook, Hyndburn - Safer, Greener, Healthier Streets project

Overview

This information was provided as part of a public engagement survey during July and August 2024. The proposals may have been updated since then in response to feedback.

Woodnook, Hyndburn

This project will include various improvements to local streets and green spaces across the estate. A revitalised public square next to the community centre on Nuttall Street will provide a community facility at the heart of the estate that encourages people to meet and spend time in it. The works will involve resurfacing the pavement, introducing new street trees, raised bed planters and seating.

The new public square will be complemented by improvements that focus on slowing down traffic using Royds Street and Nuttall Street to make it safer for people to cross the road. This will involve raising the road to meet the kerb level (raised tables) at intervals along the route.

Improved connections to Hyndburn Greenway will provide better connectivity to the town centre and other key destinations. This work will include providing a new link from Cotton Street with improved surfacing, lighting, and tree planting. Further south, a new walking, cycling and wheeling crossing will be provided on Nuttall Street to connect the Greenway to the north and south of the road.

A new zebra crossing will be provided on Hudson Street to make it safer to cross the road and improve routes to Woodnook Primary School. A new pick-up and drop-off facility is also proposed (subject to landownership agreements) to the south of the school, along with a new forestry area with trees and wildflower planting to support education and learning, as well as leisure and recreation activities.
